People often think that the main campus of a University is better than any other campuses because the main campuses often have more resources and it is usually the biggest campus. From this stereotyping, people often have better impression on the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto because it is the main campus and it is located in the downtown Toronto. On the other hand, the Scarborough campus which located in the uptown seems not as good as the St. George Campus; however, the Scarborough Campus has its own distinguished feature.
Small Campus, No worries
The campus is small so the travel distance between the classrooms is shortened; for this, you don't need to rush between the classes and it is easier to organize the class schedule. On the other hand, you might need to travel for quite a distance to get to the next class if you are in the St. George Campus. Besides, it is easier to find the building and the facilities on this campus, so the freshmen on Scarborough campus usually don't need to carry the campus map when they travel on campus.
Now I'm going to introduce the important buildings on the campus:
Arts and Administration Building (AA Building) is specializing for the academic issues including the registration and school administration. For example, the Register's office is responsible for the course registration, credit transformation and Student ID application etc. Besides, the dean's office is also located in this building.
Academic Resource Center (AC/ ARC Building) is a learning center. It is a place where help you to solve any academic related problems. The library, the writing center is all located in this building. Besides, you can also find the future career information in the career center.
Student Center provides varies of services to the students. For example, the Student Union Office is responsible for the student clubs management and you can also get the discounted TTC metropass and motive tickets here. In additions, there are food court and buffet restaurant within this building so it is also a good place to hang-out with friends. Moreover, the International student Office is also located in this building and it provides many services to the international student and they often host many multi-culture events which serve as the second home for the international students on campus.
The advantage for being in the small campus is that you won't miss any school events especially the academic dateline such as the last day to register the courses or the last day to drop the course because you can see the announcement while walking on the campus. Besides, most of the buildings on this campus are connected so you don't need to walk outside in the frozen winter.
Scarborough Only
There are some special features about this campus. The most distinguished feature is that only Scarborough campus has co-op programs. If you want to gain working experience while studying in the university, the Scarborough campus is definitely the best choice among the other campuses of the U of T. Besides, only Scarborough campus has online-courses so the students can simply downloading the lecture videos without coming to the campus. In addition, all the courses in Scarborough are half-semester and every course are worth 0.5 credits which eliminate the trouble of calculating the credits and it is easier for students to manage the courses.
Moreover, the school website of the Scarborough campus is the best among the other campuses; it is easier to find the school information from the UTSC search engine.
