Toronto is not my real hometown, but it is where I spent my teenage life, the second critical period (1) of my life. I left my hometown, Taiwan when I was fifteen years old and stay here thereafter until now. It has been seven years that I live in this beautiful city, how can't you love it? I love Toronto not only because I spent seven years out of my entire life here, but because it is the place that make my life different. It is a place that opens my eyes towards the world. I love Toronto, not because of the CN tower, the food or the environment; I love Toronto all because of those beautiful life experiences that I learned from it.
During the time in Toronto, I gained the ability to survive in the snow. I was looking forward to the snow when I first came here but after the first snow in my life, winter in Toronto has became the most terrible nightmare. However, the humans are the most amazing creature and they can adapt to different environment easily. So after the few years of "snow training", I'm as strong as the polar bear. Nevertheless, I'm still disagrees the saying of "walking in the snow is very romantic." Life in Toronto makes me physically strong by forcing me to tolerant the -20 C weather.
During the years abroad, I learned different cultures. I learned how to balance myself between the Canadian and Chinese cultures even though I am still more Chinese from head to toe. However, it makes me to view the world with better vantage point and widen my world and my thoughts. I met many amazing people and learned countless special experiences here. I can never forget all the challenges that I had encountered. I always remembered when my high school civil teacher asked me “how long have you been here?” I answered “half hour” and she believed in me and thought I just arrived the school from the Pearson International Airport. (2) The teacher is so nice that she never thinks this innocent international student would make language mistake and still believe in her saying. (3)
From 2001 to 2008, the city Toronto has given me more than I thought, even the TTC (4) strike didn't affect any of my part-times and final exams. I will miss Toronto when I left here, a beautiful place with all those sweet memories

1) The second critical period = a phrase made me
In psychology and the child development, the critical period is the time period in the early stages of the child life during which it displays a heightened sensitivity to certain environmental stimuli, and develops in particular ways due to experiences at this time. If the child does not receive the appropriate stimulus during this time, he/she may have difficulties to develop some functions in later life.I believes that the teenage period is the second critical period in a human's life.
2) Pearson International Airport, the airport in Toronto , about 30-40 minutes away from my high school.
3) Of course I explained to her afterwards. I was gonna said: Half YEAR but was tongue-tied and said Half Hour.
4) TTC = Toronto Transit Commission. The public transportation system in Toronto and I depended on it very much. There were 2 strikes happened during these 7 years.
I got this random thought when I was in the Subway on May 6, 2008 so I decided to write it down in the "semi-formal essay format" and because the English is the official language in this city, I decided to write it in my lame English.
